Blackjack is the most popular casino card game in American casinos, and can be
found in every casino the world over.

Online Blackjack is very simple to play. The object is to get a hand totaling
closest to 21 without going over 21 - known as 'busting'. All cards are taken at face
value, with picture cards worth 10. Aces may be worth either 1 or 11, it is the
player's choice. A 'blackjack' is any 10 value card plus an Ace and cannot be
beaten, even by a multiple card total of 21.

Blackjack is one of the best games to play in a casino, because depending on the
rules the house edge is often as low as 0.5%. This is of course if you use perfect
strategy for the particular game you are playing.

Basic Online Blackjack Strategy
Basic Blackjack strategy is based solely on figures of mathematics, and therefore,
is constant. The formula is derived from probabilities in order to minimize the
house edge, which when followed can reduce that edge to under one half of a
percent. Variations of rules at different casinos mean the strategy must sometimes
be modified - at some casinos it is possible to double-down after splitting, while at
others it is not.

If you want to be a good blackjack player you need to know the basic strategy.
Following instincts might be fun and occasionally rewarding, but no one serious
about Blackjack ignores the basic strategy. This stratgegy has been systematically
determined and refined by computer simulations.

All basic blackjack strategy requires you to do is memorize each of the unique
situations which arise once you have been dealt two cards and have seen the
dealer's up-card.

When it comes to
blackjack strategy, there are several rules of thumb which
should always be followed. This is one of the great things about playing blackjack.
Compared to other gambling games - especially chance-related ones like roulette
and slots - a logical and mathematical approach can be learned and utilized in
order to increase your chances of winning. Perhaps it's for this reason that
blackjack remains one of the most popular casino games.

First, you must distinguish between hard hands, soft hands, and pairs. A soft hand
is when you have an Ace (which counts as either 1 or 11) which makes it possible
for your hand to have two different totals. A hard hand is without an Ace. A pair is
straightforward - two of the same number.

Tables and charts are not ideally suited to memorization. The easiest way to
memorize the chart is to think about it in English, rather than as a table. For
example, if you are dealt 2 and 6, the hard hand chart tells you to hit. Remember:
when you have 8 or less, always hit.

Hard Hands

When you have 8 or less, always hit.
When you have 9, double down if the dealer has 3 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have 10, double down if the dealer has 2 thru 9 - otherwise hit.
When you have 11, double down is dealer has 2 thru 10 - otherwise hit.
When you have 12, hit if dealer has 2 or 3, stand if he has 4 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have 13 to 16, stand if the dealer has 2 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have 17 to 21, always stand.

Soft Hands

When you have A-2 or A-3, double down if the dealer has 5 or 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have A-4 or A-5, double down if the dealer has 4 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have A-6, double down if the dealer has 3 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have A-7, double down if the dealer has 3 thru 6, stand on 2,7, or 8 -
otherwise hit.
When you have A-8 or A-9, always stand.

Splitting Pairs

When you have 8-8 or Ace-Ace, always split.
When you have 2-2 or 3-3, split if the dealer has 2 thru 7 - otherwise hit.
When you have 4-4, split if the dealer has 4 or 5 - otherwise hit.
When you have 5-5, double down if the dealer has 2 thru 9 - otherwise hit.
When you have 6-6, split if the dealer has 2 thru 6 - otherwise hit.
When you have 7-7, split if the dealer has 2 thru 7 - otherwise hit.
When you have 9-9, split if the dealer has 2 thru 6, 8, or 9. Stand on anything else.
When you have 10-10, always stand.

If you remember and utilize this info, you will notice huge improvements in your
blackjack game. There are no exceptions to the rules. For example, you should
always split 8s and Aces. You should never split 5s or 10s.
